Stonewall – Old Course

Elverson, PA 1993

It was a stroke of luck for me to get to build this high-end private club west of Philadelphia at such an early stage of my career, after the original designer [Tom Fazio] had pulled out due to other commitments. We started with the Fazio plan which had been approved for permits, but re-routed four holes to reduce earthmoving, without having to amend the erosion control permit.

The property was originally a dairy farm, and the massive barns [built in the traditional Amish dry-stone construction] were refurbished to serve as the clubhouse. Our new finishing hole plays downhill with the approach running right along the courtyard of the clubhouse, so that the buildings are integral to the golf hole and the course
